At the August 6 Council meeting, Red Deer County Council approved revisions to the Municipal Addressing Policy to include information regarding the two types of municipal addressing used within the County. The Council also initiated a program to subsidize the costs of replacement of faded blue rural address signs that were installed as part of the County’s rural address installation program that occurred in 2008 to 2010.
Other revisions to the policy include:
(1) The County’s ability to assign urban style address to properties located in Hamlets, Business Parks and Industrial Parks. Council approval was provided for urban style addressing in Business and Industrial Parks in 2011 and for Hamlets in 2013 to align with Canada Post’s mailing address conversions. However, reference to this style of addressing has not been included in the addressing policy.
(2) Advising that all municipal addresses are to be plainly visible from the roadway with rural address signs to adhere to the County’s Rural Addressing Sign Design and Placement Standards. Properties with urban style addresses are also required to comply with the Land Use Bylaw sign regulations if applicable.
This update is good news for anyone with a faded blue address sign, as they can now be replaced free of charge. To request a new blue address sign, simply call Red Deer County at 403.350.2150
