Red Deer County will review the vision for the County’s future and what changes are needed to update the County’s Municipal Development Plan (MDP).

“How we use our land today can have longer term impacts on the County in future, which is why it’s important to update our MDP,” said County Mayor Jim Wood. “Since the MDP will guide Council decisions in the future, it is important to hear from our residents and those who may be affected. That’s why this project focuses on community feedback and involvement. I encourage all County residents and businesses get involved in the process to develop a vision for an updated plan.”

“We want people to get involved and really think about what changes are important to make today in how the County develops and grows to have the kind of future we want for ourselves and for our children. Talking about our future together is important because we all share in the responsibility to sustain Red Deer County as a great place to live, work and raise our families,” says Peter Scholz, Red Deer County Long Range Planning Manager.

The vision and updated MDP will reflect the community feedback and will ultimately guide County Council decisions about many matters, such as:

  • Support for agriculture
  • Preservation of farm land
  • Rural subdivision practices
  • Recreation and open space
  • Transportation
  • Municipal services
  • Community development

“Our work together to develop a shared vision for the County’s future will direct the MDP update. An updated MDP will guide the County’s planning for future growth and the needs of the next generation,” adds Cynthia Cvik, Red Deer County’s Planning & Development Services Director. “We hope County residents and businesses will participate in this process, for the sake of our environment, families, economy, culture and lifestyle in future. All ideas are welcomed.”

People are invited to contact the County’s MDP Project Manager Richard C. Moje for more information about this project and the upcoming workshops, by calling 403-357-2369.

You can learn about the MDP, the issues facing Red Deer County, and join your neighbours in friendly discussion at a Community Workshop. Dates and times are listed below, and also on www.rdcountyvision.ca. This website will also have current information as well as provide ways for people to share their ideas over the course of the MDP review.
