Health Services

Alberta has a publicly administered and funded health-care system that guarantees Albertans receive universal access to medically necessary hospital and health care services. The Central Alberta region serves nearly 300,000 residents, and employs over 8,000 staff, including approximately 380 practicing physicians; more than 250 of those in Red Deer.

The region provides a wide range of first class health services, including home care, 24-hour emergency care, mental health services, rehabilitation, health promotion, dental and eye care, and MRI services.

The Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre (RDRHC) is a hub for health care in Central Alberta and is the referral centre for the region. Among the array of extensive health services, the hospital houses a large dialysis clinic, cancer clinic, and a pediatric unit and special care nursery. In January 2008, RDRHC was named primary stroke care centre. This means patients within the Red Deer Region are now closer to immediate diagnostic and treatment services with 24/7 access to a stroke neurologist.
